Boy. After watching Vitali defend his title this past weekend. I can see why Holyfield is still fighting at his age. Vitali has like no arsenol at all. Even though Evander's punch output is pretty much non existent against boxers. If these two should happen to meet up. I just hope Vitali stands in front of Holyfield, like he did against that palooka he fought Saturday night. Man the Heavyweight division is a joke nowadays.

I don't know if anything will come of it, but according to a report on eastsideboxing.com, Danny Green, fresh off his 1st-round stoppage of Roy Jones, has expressed interest in a bout with Evander (should Holyfield get past Botha). Holyfield and his people have made no mention of it- only the Green camp has entertained the idea, presumably if the proposed bout with Bernard Hopkins fails to materialize.
On another note: Although I'd still rather
not
see Evander take on Vitali Klitschko, I don't see it as the insurmountable, impossible task that I thought it was prior to seeing Vitali's defense against Kevin Johnson this past Saturday. Johnson rarely ventured out of his defensive posturing, failed to mount
any
type of meaningful offensive attack, yet still managed to visibly frustrate Vitali, while causing mild swelling and opening a small cut over Klitschko's eye...though it should be mentioned that Vitali won virtually every round. Ironically however, Johnson, in losing a lopsided shutout, revealed chinks in Klitschko's armor that give Holyfield supporters cause for mild optimism that didn't exist previously...

I believe Evander will knock the fillings out of Botha's teeth!

You're right, it certainly would be fun to see Evander attack from the opening bell and I would
love
nothing more than to see him get Botha out of there early...but I agree that it probably won't happen. As you stated, an early KO would make the Vitali fight more marketable...and that gives me mixed feelings about just how impressively I want Evander to perform. Obviously, I want Evander to win every time he steps in the ring, and I want him to perform at his very best...but when the reward for doing so becomes a title shot at an opponent who he appears to have no chance against...I just want my hero to bow out gracefully...whenever that is...Throughout Holyfield's career, I have
never
been one to count him out. I have a very hard time seeing him beat Vitali, however. As an avid fan and admirer of Evander...as one of his biggest supporters (my son's middle name is Evander, for cryin' out loud!)...
I do not want to see this fight take place
...I admire this man too damn much to see him get hurt!
>On a personal note, benjamindallas: I noticed on your profile that you are located in Afghanistan. I can only assume that you are over there for the most noble cause, and I want to say
Thank You.
You have all my respect.
Thanks! I actually need to change my status though, I got back stateside last June and haven't updated anything on this board yet.

I agree, earley...Botha is a strong guy with an awkward style who fights a very physical type of fight. Evander is vastly superior in terms of skills, but my concern is that Botha's awkwardness may prevent Evander from utilizing those skills in much the same way that John Ruiz was able to in their 3-fight series. It is a very dangerous fight and has the potential to be an ugly affair that is far more physically taxing on Evander's 47-year-old body than we all would like. I can't help but make the comparison to John Ruiz...Evander was expected to have his way with Ruiz, and the result was 36 rounds of hell stretched out over a 16 month span.
By most accounts that I've read from boxing people who have seen Botha fight recently (I haven't...), Evander appears to have more in the tank at this point in their careers than does Botha. Evander will need to use his legs in this fight and prevent Botha from using the mauling tactics employed by Ruiz...lateral movement, angles, double and triple jabs, sharp combinations, a consistent body attack...prevent Botha from turning it into a streetfight...keep Botha at bay on the end of the jab and stay out of the trenches. If Evander can achieve this and not allow himself to fall into clinches...not allow himself to be lured into a dogfight...he can win -and win impressively. But it will not be easy and it is not a fight that
anyone
-least of all
Evander
- should take for granted as a foregone conclusion.
I agree with you're post. However I can't help but to imagine what might happen if Evander just bum rushed him and went in for the early 1st round KO. Maybe not so likely I know, but definitely possible. I wonder how botha would be able to handle the shock of Evander just coming out swinging for the fences and puting on constant pressure for a round or so? It would be fun to watch and Evander could possible trap him and get him out. Again I know this won't happen but it would be fun if it did! It would also make a fight with him and Vitali more marketable. (which may not be a good thing)

yep the botha fight is on
is now on 16/1/2010
and it wont be a walk in the park at all, botha has only lost 4 times, to the likes of lewis, tyson... he is very active, 3 fights in 2009, going the full 12 rounds twice and 10 rounds once, his last 5 fights he has won on points ( 1 draw )
it was botha who offered the fight to holyfield, and its bothas title on the line,
good luck champ
